FRED
THE CLOWN.

Before Fred had a story, he had a face.

Born from Red Alpha's creative response to the creepy-clown phenomenon of 2016, Fred and Clown Patrol began in artwork, apparel and social media long before Fred ever had a fictional biography.

Now we're opening the archive, preserving where he came from and discovering where he might go next.

THE CLOWN ISN'T ALWAYS
WHO WE'RE TOLD HE IS.

Fred has always played with appearances, assumptions and fear. The character who looks dangerous may not be the monster. The thing everyone has already decided to fear may not be the whole story.

Behind Fred • The Real Story

Fred existed before his story did.

In 2016, reports, photographs and social-media accounts involving creepy clowns were spreading across the internet.

Ruben Escalona was watching it happen—and interacting with some of it online. Instead of simply reposting what everyone else was talking about, he responded the way Red Alpha often responded: by creating something.

That response became Clown Patrol.

The earliest expression of the property wasn't a novel, movie or carefully planned fictional universe. It was artwork, T-shirt designs, merchandise and social-media posts created with Red Alpha's graphic-design team.

The designers who helped turn those early ideas into finished artwork are still part of Red Alpha today.

From the Archives

Before the lore, there were receipts.

We're still recovering the original Fred and Clown Patrol archive. Rather than rewrite the past from memory, we're preserving the artwork, posts, designs and other pieces that show how the property actually developed.

The Original Clown Patrol Design

One of the surviving original digital proofs places Clown Patrol squarely in the 2016 creepy-clown moment. The artwork established the visual reversal that would continue to follow the property: the frightening-looking clown isn't necessarily the threat.

“Our Clown Patrol design is leading the way...”

A surviving post from Ruben's @RedAlphacp Twitter account shows Clown Patrol being promoted publicly during the original clown-sighting conversation, using the hashtags #clownsightings and #clowns.

WHO IS
ACTUALLY THE
MONSTER?
The Collection

Clown Patrol.

Clown Patrol grew as a Red Alpha collection through artwork, apparel, social posts and designs that often played against familiar expectations.

Fred could look intimidating while confronting something the audience already assumed was the threat. Sometimes the work was dark. Sometimes funny. Sometimes topical. Sometimes ridiculous. It didn't need to stay inside one box.

BULLY
PROOF.
Look Closely

Even the original artwork has a story.

On Fred's arm is the signature mark from another Red Alpha creation: Bully Proof.

Details like this are why the original artwork matters. Fred and Clown Patrol didn't appear in isolation. They grew out of a much larger history of Red Alpha designs, ideas, characters and creative experiments.

Two Stories • One Character

The story of Fred—and the story behind Fred.

Fred has a fictional story. He also has a real creative history. They're connected, but they're not the same thing.

Fiction

The Story of Fred the Clown

The circus. The paint. The masks. The outsiders. Clown Patrol. This is Fred's fictional world—a story that began taking shape years after the original character and designs first appeared.

Creator History

Behind Fred

The childhood name. The 2016 clown phenomenon. Ruben's response. The original artwork. The designers. The shirts. The social posts. The years between then and now. This is how Fred actually came into the world.

The Fictional Story

Fred finally got a biography.

Years after Clown Patrol first appeared, we started asking a different question: Who is Fred? The answer wasn't sitting in a finished mythology bible. We began discovering the fictional story as we wrote it.

Part 1 • Now Reading

The Story Begins

Fred wasn't born beneath the circus tent. He was made there. The first chapter begins exploring the painted smile, the treatment of the clowns and the beginnings of Clown Patrol.

Part 2

What Fred Saw

The circus becomes something larger. Artists, makers and independent thinkers begin appearing beneath the paint as Fred questions who gets to decide what a clown is supposed to be.

Part 3

Clown Patrol Rising

Fred begins gathering other outsiders. They don't surrender their identities to join him. Their differences become part of what Clown Patrol is.

Paint and Purpose

The paint takes on meaning. Masks become expressions rather than hiding places, and one line captures something essential about Fred's world: not every clown is here to make you laugh.

From the World of Clown Patrol

The story came later.
The shirts were already here.

Clown Patrol began as something people could actually wear. Original and later designs remain part of the Red Alpha collection. The merchandise isn't the reason Fred exists. It's part of the history of how he got here.

What's Next?

WE DON'T KNOW
YET.

That's part of the fun.

We're recovering the archive, preserving the original work and rediscovering a character that first appeared nearly a decade ago. We're not forcing Fred into a predetermined next chapter simply because the old story stopped at Part 4.

Red Alpha Studios gives Fred a bigger stage than he had in 2016. What he decides to do with it is another question.

Let's see what Fred has to say.
